Dropping Off and Picking Up Your Child
Parents, ALWAYS USE THE FRONT LOOP when dropping off/ picking up your child. Drop off/pick up is NOT allowed in employee/student parking lot due to safety concerns.
If you double up in the front loop while you wait, please merge carefully into one line to exit. Make NO left turns out of the front car loop. Left turns create backups and present a safety concern. A sign is posted, please comply.
NO students may enter the cafeteria until 7:30 AM. We have no supervision in that area until then.
DO NOT drop off or pick up your child along Millwood Avenue. It is not safe to cross Millwood Avenue, except at the marked intersection.
Early Dismissal Policy
Please send a note signed by you, the parent or guardian, with your child to show your child's teacher at the time of early dismissal. The teacher will be responsible for sending your child to the attendance office to be dismissed.
A student also may be dismissed early if an adult on the student’s approved pick-up list comes into the building to sign out the student (a photo ID is required). We can no longer allow student early dismissal by email under any circumstance. Additionally, please be reminded that the early dismissal cut-off time is 2:30 pm.

Permission to Administer Medication
-
Please note that Possession of Over-the-Counter or Prescription Medications is a Level 2 Disciplinary Offense.
Note: If your child requires any medication, including an over-the-counter (nonprescription) medication, while at school - even on a temporary basis - you must obtain the proper permission form for the use of medication at school. The permission forms can be downloaded below.
Re-enrollment of Returning Students
Annual Returning Student Enrollment- The Window is Open Now!
All current students who intend to return to Dreher for the 2025-2026 school year must be reenrolled. Emails from the Dreher Registrar’s Office to the parent/guardian of all currently enrolled students were sent on May 7, 2025. The parent/guardian of more than one current student who will be returning to Dreher next year has received a separate message for each child.
These emails contain vitally important information about the reenrollment process:
-a SNAP code that is unique to each child, and
-a link to the special online PowerSchool Enrollment page.
***The online returning enrollment process is NOT COMPLETE until you upload TWO acceptable Proofs of Current Residence (POR). DO NOT SUBMIT your reenrollment package until you have uploaded TWO acceptable Proofs of Residence. Doing so will delay both your child’s enrollment and the creation of next year’s class schedule.***
The District Registrar’s Office has defined acceptable proofs of residence:
“You are required to provide two (2) documents to verify residency. Proof of residency must be in the parent/legal guardian's name and must be dated within thirty (30) days of the date it is submitted to the school. Poor quality pictures and incomplete documents cannot be accepted.
Below are acceptable address verification documents:
Proof of Residency #1: all the pages to your current, unexpired lease, rental agreement, or mortgage statement, deed, property tax bill
Proof of Residency #2: Utility or residential service bill, examples include: electric, gas, water/sewage, landline phone, cable/satellite/internet
If your family is living with another family, you must complete a Shared Housing Affidavit packet. The packet and information regarding the Shared Housing process can be found on the Richland One website at /Page/6288. This packet must be completed every school year that your family continues to reside at your current residence or if you move into another family's home.”
If you encounter any difficulties, please contact
Dreher’s Registrar, Quenna Smith (quenna.smith@richlandone.org) or
Records Clerk, Hannah Markowitz (hannah.markowitz@richlandone.org)
Replacement Costs for Chargers and School IDs
At the start of the school year each student was issued a laptop, a charger, a school ID with lanyard and sleeve to hold the ID. If items go missing, arrange for replacements with the Media Center.
Replacement Costs:
Computer chargers: currently $35, but cost will vary depending upon Media Center's replacement costs.
Replacement ID: $5
Laynard: $1
ID Sleeve: $1

Communications Between School and Home
There are a variety of vehicles the school and the district use to communicate with students and their families.
-The main phone line into Dreher is 803-253-7000.
-Grades and attendance are accessible on PowerSchool Parent Portal both online and on the Parent/Student Mobile App.
-The Richland Mobile App (especially valuable for emergency alerts) can be download from the App Store or Google play. On the Mobile App you can request immediate notifications of absences and grade postings.
-The email address of each teacher, counselor and administrator is on the Faculty and Staff Listing on the Dreher website. Email is usually the preferred method of reaching a teacher.
-The administration uses an automated telephone system to advise parents when their child is absent from school.
-The school and the district also use automated telephone messaging systems to communicate important information. Dreher also may send emails or text messages with school-wide information.
-Dreher maintains a website (dreher.richlandone.org) and accounts on Twitter (twitter.com/dreherhigh), Facebook (facebook.com/dreherhighschool) and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/dreherhighschool/).
-The District maintains a website (www.richlandone.org), a Cable TV channel (ROTV-Spectrum cable channel 1303), Video on Demand, a YouTube channel and social media accounts on Facebook (facebook.com/richlandone), Twitter (twitter.com/richlandone), and Instagram (www.instagram.com/richland.one).

Hello, Blue Devil Families! This week at 3319 Millwood, we celebrated our teachers for National Teacher Appreciation Week. THANK YOU teachers!!! And we fully entered “testing season” with a complete week of AP Exams and the first of several End-of-Course Exams. We had some struggles with fire alarms again, but in these last two days, we made some strides in preventing the alarms due to students vaping. Please keep talking to your students about the dangers of vaping. Disrupting the learning environment impacts not only our entire school but also impacts community resources with the Fire Department having to respond. Thank you for helping your students to be truly present, involved, and engaged! Here are a few things to share for this week and beyond:

AP Exams continue through May 16 for students who are enrolled in AP courses this year. Please see the exam schedule below. AP students should be present and seated in their testing rooms no later than 7:45 am for morning exams or 11:45 am for afternoon exams. Metal detector screening will open at 7:30 am by the Cafeteria doors to ensure that students can arrive at their exam rooms on time. It is important that students arrive on time for testing; because of College Board regulations, we cannot delay the beginning of exams for latecomers. School Improvement Council (SIC)
April 30, 2025
Dear Dreher Families,
As we prepare to enter testing season and begin the process of ending the 24-25 school year, I hope everyone is doing well. Over the next several days, students will take a variety of tests and exams—Advanced Placement, State End-of-Course, and School Exams. There are awards nights, athletic competitions, fine arts performances, and, of course, graduation for our Class of 2025. To help encapsulate the year, please see attached our Annual School Improvement Council “Report to the Parents” 2024-2025. The report provides a snapshot of some of the many accomplishments and achievements our students and school have made this past year. Our major focus this year has been improving the learning environment (Goal 3) by addressing the issue of vaping in schools. We made some progress with the installation of vape-detectors as well as an increase in vape education. However, we have more work to do to solve this issue. While we intend to continue working on Goal 3, for the 2025-2026 school year, we are looking toward clarifying the school report card process (Goal 1) and providing an online mechanism for collecting feedback from our parents (Goal 2).
I thank all those who contributed to our SIC this year, especially to Mrs. Sally McCants, our SIC Chair. And I thank all the individuals (students, staff, and faculty) who have made 2024-2025 a successful year. With a few more weeks to go, we certainly have time to add to our list of 24-25 accomplishments.

What is SIC?
WHAT IS A SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT COUNCIL (SIC)?
Key Points
- The School Improvement Council (SIC) serves as an advisory committee to a school's principal and faculty.
- Unlike PTA/PTOs and other voluntary school organizations, councils are mandated by law to exist in every public school in South Carolina.
- SICs play a key role in the education of our state's children, bringing together parents, educators and community stakeholders to work collectively to improve their local schools.
- More than 16,000 people serve on SICs in South Carolina.
Key Functions
- SICs work with the school to develop and implement a five-year school improvement plan (school renewal plan).
- SICs monitor and evaluate success in reaching the plan's goals and objectives.
- SICs write an annual report to parents about the progress of the plan.
- SICs assist the principal in writing the narrative for the School Report Card.
- SICs advise on the use of school incentive awards and provide assistance as requested by the principal.
