Art is Everywhere at Dreher

At the request of Columbia Mayor Rickenmann, Art teacher Katie Pfrommer enlisted the members of our National Art Honor Society (NAHS) to decorate a 74" trout for Columbia Streams Art.  

The group began by painting the trout blue - of course!  Next Ms. Pfrommer invited students throughout the school to add their names to scales which were then arranged on the trout.  NAHS members finished the trout by painting its head, tail, and fins. 

We have rescued the our trout and it now swims in the front office area.

Four large scale murals were created by students in the National Art Honor Society and Dreher's Art Club, directed by teacher Katie Pfrommer.  Students designed and painted realistic frames as eye-catching focal points for Dreher's Permanent Collection of Student Work. 

The Art I students of Jennifer Gorlewski were inspired to create 1000 cranes to make their wish for world peace come true.  The cranes are exhibited in the Dreher Media Center.

Friendship Triptych

More art on the walls of Dreher!

Jennifer Gorlewski's AP Art students created a compilation painting about friendship. Students from AP Art, Art 1, and Art 2 classes contributed. The triptych is installed on the first floor front hall outside of room 127. 

On Thursday, May 3, 2024, muralist Ija Charles graciously shared details about her life and career as an artist and her advice for our own Blue Devil artists. They loved that she thrifts a pair of overalls to wear when creating her murals, and that they are eventually auctioned off at Columbia Museum of Art.

Ms. Charles's mural is being funded by both Dreher and the Dreher Foundation.  Art teacher Katie Pfrommer arranged for the this opportunity for our school.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony 

Senior Art students in the Class of 2022 painted a mural on the first floor "Arts Hallway," symbolizing all of Dreher's fine and performing arts. 

Members of the Art III Honors Class painted the large-scale piece "Mind Games" and hung it in the Counseling Department.
